Woven by the women of Life Wild in our Mullumbimby HQ, using 100% Natural Fair Trade Hemp Twine which is made for Australian company, Import Ants, by the female powered and incredible social enterprise, Araliya Community Company, ethically in Sri Lanka.
Import Ants believe in the power of positive change to a more ethical and sustainable life, and are endorsed by the Fair Trade Associaton of Australia. The amazing Araliya Community Company started when a group of Nuns from Rome began a school for the hearing impaired in Sri Lanka and saw the need for an income for the mothers of these children. They began a working group with them in the kindergarten of the school, and from these small beginnings, the Araliya Community Company began.
The women are employed in part-time permanent positions, working five half-days per week at award wages, with a pension provided at retirement age. Working in small groups close to their homes, each member owns a share of the company and each group elects their own board member, contributing to all the company’s decisions. The products sold by Araliya not only allow these women to earn an income but they also provide a network for social change and group discussion, and contribute to the Don Severino Fabriani Institute for hearing impaired.
